Woody Harrelson Wants To Get Into The Hawaii Medical Marijuana Industry
| Posted on February 8, 2016 at 10:10 AM |
Woody Harrelson has been a long time support of reform. He has participated in Seattle Hempfest, and was even arrested for trying to very publicly plant hemp seeds. He’s a freedom fighter in every way. I have always been a Woody Harrelson fan, even before I was an activist. I grew up watching him on the show Cheers and he was my favorite character, and his film White Men Can’t Jump is absolutely one of my all time favorites. When I was playing hoops growing up, if I wasn’t wearing a Portland Trailblazer jersey, I often wore a homemade jersey with ‘Billy Hoyle’ written on the back. Woody Harrelson is one of my heros, always has been, always will be.
Because of my admiration for Woody as an activist and actor, I was delighted to read that he is applying for a medical marijuana business license in Hawaii. Per the Huffington Post:
The actor and marijuana advocate was one of almost 60 applicants vying to open up one of Honolulu County’s first medical dispensaries. He’d open under his company name, Simple Organic Living, according to a state Department of Health statement.
The state will review applications and award them to eight applicants in April, about a year after the Hawaii Legislature passed a bill allowing dispensaries to open. Medical marijuana has been legal in the state for more than 15 years, but there had never been a way for patients to obtain it legally.
If selected, the “Cheers” and “Hunger Games” star will be able to open two production centers and two dispensaries, according to The Associated Press.
Below is a summary of Hawaii’s new medical marijuana dispensary law, via the Marijuana Policy Project:
On July 14, 2015, Gov. David Ige signed two important medical marijuana laws. HB 321 allows medical marijuana dispensaries to operate in Hawaii, and SB 1291 strengthens civil protections for patients.
HB 321 initially allows eight dispensaries (three on Oahu, two each on Big Island and Maui, and one on Kauai) with two............. http://www.theweedblog.com/woody-harrelson-wants-to-get-into-the-hawaii-medical-marijuana-industry/
