Once upon a time I talked with a person who was looking at investing in Illinois’ medical marijuana industry. At the time of our discussion, Illinois was still in the process of reviewing applications for the limited number of licenses for dispensaries and cultivation facilities. The numbers he said people were putting up were astronomical, but seemed confident that it would all be worth it to the people that won licenses. He kept pointing to Illinois’ large population as the reason why it would be such a big score for the people that won licenses.

I was very quick to point out that Illinois’ medical marijuana program was too restrictive, and that until more conditions were added to the program, there wouldn’t be that many patients. I urged him to push for expanding the program in his state, not only to increase the patient base for industry purposes, but also because it’s the right thing to do. No one should be denied an effective medicine for political reasons. I could tell at the time the person I was talking to didn’t quite grasp what I was saying, which made me sad.

I recently got my hands on a Haze V3.0 Vaporizer, and it is amazing. The first thing that I noticed about the vaporizer was the way it looked. The design doesn’t look like any other handheld vaporizer that I’ve ever seen. The one I got is black, and it reminds me a lot of a smoking device that Batman would use. The design definitely doesn’t look like others on the market which makes it stand out, but it still looks discrete because people don’t know what it is. Marijuana opponents often say that consuming marijuana makes a person dumber. Many opponents specifically point towards marijuana use as a teenager and try to link it to a lower IQ later in life. Those claims almost always point to a long debunked study that concluded that marijuana use as a teenager would lower a person’s IQ 8 points later in life. Martin Luther King Jr. has been admired in my family well before I was born. In virtually every house in my family, there are pictures of Mr. King hanging on the walls, and quotes plastered on everything from coffee mugs to school projects. A majority of Americans, including two-thirds of Democrats, believe that marijuana should be legal for adults, according to nationwide survey data compiled by YouGov.com.

Fifty-two percent of respondents said, “[T]he use of marijuana should be legalized.” Only 34 percent of respondents opposed the idea.

Support for legalization was strongest among self-identified Democrats (66 percent), those with a household income of $100,000 or more (62 percent), and African Americans (59 percent). Support was weakest among Hispanics (39 percent), those over 65 years of age (39 percent), and self-identified Republicans (36 percent).
