Cops Who Stole Edibles And Harrassed Staff After Raiding Medical Marijuana Dispensary To Face Charges

Posted on March 16, 2016 at 11:15 AM Comments comments (0)

cops law enforcement special needs students entrapment

Last year the Santa Ana Police Department raided the Sky High Dispensary. The story goes that the dispensary owners caught wind that they would be raided, so they set up some discrete security cameras in addition to the obvious security cameras that were very easy to spot in the dispensary. As expected, the cops raided the dispensary. They came in an one of the first things that they did was bust up all of the security cameras in the place. Or so they thought. They didn’t break the discrete security cameras which kept rolling, and recorded some very awful behavior by the cops.

The cops were seen on video stealing edibles from the dispensary, eating them, and joking about how the edibles made them feel. The videos of course caught the officers on camera breaking all of the other security surveillance equipment. In a particularly disturbing display, one of the officers threatens to assault a disabled amputee in the dispensary by kicking her ‘in her nub.’ The cops of course didn’t know they were being recorded and were more than willing to show their true colors. The Santa Ana PD has tried very hard to state that the edibles that were stolen and consumed weren’t infused with marijuana, but were instead regular...........http://www.theweedblog.com/cops-edibles-raiding-medical-marijuana-dispensary-charges/

Poll: Voters Back Rescheduling And Legalizing Marijuana

Posted on March 16, 2016 at 11:10 AM Comments comments (0)

Legalize Marijuana legalization cannabis prohibition tea party

By Paul Armentano, NORML Deputy Director

Fifty-two percent of registered voters support legalizing marijuana “for recreational use,” according to national tracking poll data compiled by Morning Consult — a Washington DC consulting firm. Forty-three percent of respondents polled said that they oppose legalization and five percent were undecided.

Respondents between the ages of 18 to 29 (63 percent), Democrats (61 percent), and those aged 30 to 44 (60 percent) were most likely to support legalization. Republicans (37 percent) and those age 65 or older (36 percent) were least likely to be supportive.

In response to separate polling questions, 68 percent of respondents said that they support legalizing marijuana “for medical use.” Fifty-nine percent endorse decriminalizing marijuana, defined as “no arrest, prison time, or criminal record for the first-time possession of a small amount,” and 83 percent of respondents said that cannabis did not belong classified as a schedule 1 controlled substance under.............http://www.theweedblog.com/poll-voters-back-rescheduling-and-legalizing-marijuana/

Ohio Medical Marijuana Initiative Resubmitted To AG??s Office

Posted on March 16, 2016 at 11:10 AM Comments comments (0)

ohioans for medical marijuana

Backers of a proposed 2016 ballot measure to establish a comprehensive medical marijuana program in Ohio resubmitted their initiative petition to the Ohio Attorney General on Tuesday with more than 2,800 signatures.

The office has 10 days to examine the official summary of the initiative and confirm the petition contains at least 1,000 valid signatures of Ohio voters. The petition will then be sent to the Ohio Ballot Board, which will have 10 days to review the measure and confirm it complies with Ohio initiative laws. Initiative backers will then need to collect an additional 305,591 valid signatures of Ohio voters by early July in order to qualify for the November ballot.

Attorney General Mike DeWine notified Ohioans for Medical Marijuana on Friday that he had rejected the group’s initial submission because he found three deficiencies in the official summary of the initiative.

In addition to addressing the attorney general’s comments in the summary, initiative backers amended the initiative to include additional debilitating medical conditions that would be covered by the program. Specifically, the new version includes autism with aggressive or self-injurious behaviors, sickle cell anemia, severe fibromyalgia, spinal cord disease, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury or post-concussion syndrome, Parkinson’s disease, muscular dystrophy, and Huntington’s disease. It would also make Ohio the first state to allow medical marijuana as a treatment for............http://www.theweedblog.com/ohio-medical-marijuana-initiative-resubmitted-to-ags-office/

Pittsburgh NORML Issues Statement On Martavis Bryant NFL Suspension

Posted on March 16, 2016 at 11:05 AM Comments comments (0)

martavis bryant marijuana

By now most of Steeler Nation has undoubtedly learned that the black & gold will be without the services of our “star in the making” Martavis Bryant for apparently skipping drug tests with the presumption being that he would fail. Mr. Bryant, as we will recall, missed the first four games of the 2015 season due to cannabis use which is prohibited by the NFL. I have heard people call him a bad teammate, selfish, immature. I have heard “what a waste of talent” and “he could have been . . . ” I have also heard that Mr. Bryant is hardworking and humble, and in near constant pain from game days.

The NFL, like any employer, is free to set conditions of employment. If Mr. Bryant’s suspension is due to cannabis use the NFL is free to suspend him pursuant to the contract negotiated with the player’s union. Mr. Bryant is no different in this respect from the City sanitation worker, the fire-fighter or anyone else who takes a job knowing that clean urine screens are a condition of employment.

The NFL, however, is no ordinary employer. It makes millionaires out of young men. It demands they engage violent collisions on a weekly basis to entertain the legion of fans. We know that players suffer long term chronic and crippling pain for years. Chicago Bears Super Bowl winning QB Jim McMahon recently detailed his struggles with pain throughout his career and especially since retirement. Former Steelers CB Ryan Clark decried the practice of handing out prescription opioids in..........http://www.theweedblog.com/pittsburgh-norml-issues-statement-on-martavis-bryant-nfl-suspension/

GW Pharmaceuticals?? Stock Value Grows After Study Results Revealed

Posted on March 16, 2016 at 11:00 AM Comments comments (0)

epidiolex gw pharmaceuticals

Many in the marijuana world have worried a lot about big pharmaceutical companies taking over the industry. While I think that some of those fears are a bit overblown, I definitely am a little concerned too. I think that big pharmaceutical companies are going to flood the industry, and that there’s not a lot that can be done to stop it. With that being said, I think that there will always be a place in the marijuana industry for small businesses because they have the products that true veteran cannabis consumers really want.

Yesterday was a big day on the marijuana industry front, especially from a pharmaceutical company standpoint, as the results from a study were released by GW Pharmaceuticals. The results were favorable, and the news sent GW Pharmaceuticals’ stock soaring. Per Marijuana Business Daily:

A British maker of cannabis-based drugs revealed some sorely needed good news on Monday, announcing that an epilepsy medicine it created has successfully treated a severe form of epilepsy in children, according to Reuters.

In a clinical study, GW Pharmaceuticals said its Epidiolex syrup reduced the monthly number of seizures in children with Dravet’s Syndrome by 39%, compared to a placebo that reduced the seizures by 13%.

The results of the clinical study propelled the Cambridge-based firm’s stock price to $81.67 in morning trading on the Nasdaq, a gain of more than 112% over Friday’s closing price of $38.46.

On one hand I don’t like seeing pharmaceuticals being brought into the marijuana industry. On the other hand, it’s my understanding that Epidiolex is a 98% oil-based CBD extract, which is different than a lot of..............http://www.theweedblog.com/gw-pharmaceuticals-stock-value-grows-after-study-results-revealed/

Washington Governor Vetoes Hemp Legalization Bill

Posted on March 16, 2016 at 11:00 AM Comments comments (0)

industrial hemp farming bill obama

Hemp is one of the most versatile plants on the planet. More and more states are reforming their hemp laws to either allow full cultivation, or at least cultivation for research purposes. Right now the United States has to import hemp products from other countries, to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars. Those dollars should be going to American farmers, many of which have expressed a strong desire to grow hemp.

A hemp research legalization bill was passed overwhelmingly by the Washington House and Senate, but the bill was vetoed by Washington’s Governor, and for a very dumb reason. Per The Joint Blog:

In a perfect example of how to improperly run a state, Washington Governor Jay Inslee has vetoed 27 bills – over 70% of all legislation passed by the state’s legislature this session – to punish lawmakers for something unrelated; not passing a budget bill.

One of the measures vetoed by Inslee – Senate Bill 6206 – would have legalized the cultivation of hemp for research purposes, including directing Washington State University to study the plant. The measure was passed unanimously in the House of Representatives, and 48 to 1 in the Senate. Although the governor calls it a “worthy bill”, he vetoed it and says he can’t support it until “a budget agreement is reached”.

I’m hopeful that since the bill passed unanimously................http://www.theweedblog.com/washington-governor-vetoes-hemp-legalization-bill/

Marijuana Industry Impact Projected To Grow To 44 Billion By 2020

Posted on March 16, 2016 at 10:55 AM Comments comments (0)

marijuana industry projections

The marijuana industry is full of eye catching numbers. One that caught a lot of headlines today was the figure of 44 billion dollars, which is what Marijuana Business Daily projects the marijuana industry impact to be by the year 2020. That’s an enormous number, but considering what Colorado was able to do in just January 2016 alone, and that’s just one state. That number is extremely achievable if some political victories are achieved.

There are a number of states that are in the process of implementing marijuana reforms, and even more that are potentially legalizing medical or recreational marijuana. A lot can happen between now and 2020, especially this year because of the election. In order for the industry impact to grow to tens of billions of dollars there would need to obviously be some victories, but I’m very confident that will happen. That’s in addition to growth in states like Colorado and Washington that are continuing to grow. Below is a chart released by Marijuana Business Daily showing their projected growth:

marijuana industry projections

These projections are part of the yearly publication that MJ Biz Daily puts out, the Marijuana Business Factbook. I have copies from years past, and there is an enormous amount of information in there. I absolutely value math, much more than any narrative. This publication is always full of the most valuable math an entrepreneur (or curious cannabis industry nerd) could ever ask for. If you own a dispensary, or want to get your product out there, or................http://www.theweedblog.com/marijuana-industry-impact-projected-to-grow-to-44-billion-by-2020/

88 Million Dollars Worth Of Marijuana Sold In Colorado In January 2016

Posted on March 16, 2016 at 10:40 AM Comments comments (0)

colorado cannabis amendment 64

The sales figures are in from Colorado for January 2016, and while they are down from the previous month, the figures are still substantial. Last year the State of Colorado sold just shy of one billion dollars worth of cannabis. This year virtually all projections have Colorado eclipsing the one billion dollar mark, and the sales figures from January would put Colorado ahead of that pace. Per The Cannabist:

Colorado pot shops sold more than $88 million of marijuana and related accessories in January 2016, according to new data from the state’s Department of Revenue.

The state’s pot shops peddled $56.5 million of recreational marijuana in January 2016 — up 55 percent from January 2015’s totals but down 9 percent from the retail market’s record-breaking December 2015 figures.

Medical marijuana dispensaries in the state sold more than $32 million of cannabis in January, down 18 percent from the previous month.

The numbers are down month to month, but I think that will be something that we see virtually every year going forward. The year over year numbers are much more indicative of where things are headed, and that growth is very impressive. If every month in 2016 were like January 2016, Colorado would eclipse the one billion dollar mark in total cannabis...........http://www.theweedblog.com/88-million-dollars-worth-of-marijuana-sold-in-colorado-in-january-2016/

Meet ??Uncle Spliffy?? At The Blazers vs Nugs Game

blazers nuggets marijuana

I was passed along an event that I am particularly excited about. If you are not a basketball fan, then maybe you won’t be as excited. However, if you are a basketball fan, a marijuana fan, AND live in the Pacific Northwest, then I’m sure you will be just as excited as I am. The SuperChronic Cafe is putting on a VIP event as part of the basketball game between the Portland Trailblazers and the Denver Nuggets. This is my favorite match up in the NBA because people always bring shirts and signs to the game that say ‘Blaze those Nuggets!.’ There was one segment on the jumbo tron at one of the games where they kept putting people holding those signs on the screen, the crowd went absolutely wild with each one, all culminating with someone wearing a ‘I blaze Nuggets’ shirt on and the crowd absolutely lost it. I love Portland.

Not only do I love Portland, but I also love me some Cliff ‘Uncle Spliffy’ Robinson, who is supposed to be in attendance for the VIP event! You can get your tickets at this link here. Realize that seats are limited, so get those tickets asap if this is something that you are into. Below is more information about the event that was passed along to me:

In keeping with the “Active Cannabis Lifestyle” theme, The SuperChronic Cafe has created a new movement- The Health Conscience (THC) with High Standards; Part of this involves retired professional athlete Cliff Robinson, AKA “Uncle Cliffy” highlighting Cannabis’ properties to rehabilitate............http://www.theweedblog.com/meet-uncle-spliffy-at-the-blazers-vs-nugs-game/

Marijuana Legalization Initiative Backers Unveil St. Patrick??s Day Billboard

massachusetts marijuana campaign 2016

Backers of a proposed ballot initiative to end marijuana prohibition in Massachusetts launched a St. Patrick’s Day-themed billboard Monday that highlights the relative safety of marijuana compared to alcohol.

The Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol will hold a news conference today at 12 p.m. ET in front of the digital billboard, which faces Seaport Blvd. on the south side of District Hall. The ad will run through Sunday, March 20, when local and state leaders will gather for the St. Patrick’s Day breakfast at the nearby Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

The billboard features a green beer, a glass of whiskey, and a marijuana leaf below the words, “Beer,” “Liquor,” and “Safer,” respectively. It directs viewers to RegulateMass.com/Safer, which details several ways in which marijuana is significantly less harmful than alcohol to the consumer and to society.

“Our goal is to make this year’s St. Patrick’s Day festivities as educational as they are enjoyable,” said CRMLA Campaign Manager Will Luzier, who previously served as executive director of the Massachusetts Interagency Council on Substance Abuse and Prevention. “While folks are........http://www.theweedblog.com/marijuana-legalization-initiative-backers-unveil-st-patricks-day-billboard/

University Of Colorado Launching Marijuana And Pregnancy Study

Marijuana Pregnant

There are not a lot of studies out there that deal with marijuana and pregnancy. It’s a very touchy subject. However, it’s something that definitely occurs, and I think that it would be better to take an objective approach to the issue instead of trying to keep it taboo like many cannabis opponents would prefer. There are a lot of unfounded claims on anti-cannabis websites ran by cannabis opponents. Whenever someone looks for something more objective, most roads lead back to a study that was conducted in 1991 that looked at Jamaican children who had mothers that consumed marijuana during pregnancy. The abstract of that study is below:

This research provides data on the development of 59 Jamaican children, from birth to age 5 years, whose mothers used marijuana during pregnancy. Approximately one-half of the sample used marijuana during pregnancy and were matched with..........http://www.theweedblog.com/university-of-colorado-launching-marijuana-and-pregnancy-study/

Statewide Florida Poll Finds 61% Support For Medical Marijuana

Posted on March 14, 2016 at 10:25 AM Comments comments (0)

united for care florida amendment 2 medical marijuana

Medical marijuana is back on the ballot in Florida after a 2014 initiative failed to pass by just 2 percent. The 2014 initiative received 58% of the vote, however, Florida requires at least 60% support on election day for medical marijuana to be legalized via the initiative process. An improved initiative, a more calculated campaign, and a bigger voter turnout will hopefully be enough to push the initiative over the top. A recent statewide poll showed a level of support that would result in a victory on election day. Per My News 13:

A new, exclusive News 13/Bay News 9 poll reveals that Florida voters are likely pass a second attempt to legalize medical marijuana.

The poll of 1,961 likely voters conducted this past weekend, found that 61 percent of all likely voters would vote in November for Amendment 2, which would change Florida’s constitution to legalize medical marijuana for “individuals with debilitating medical conditions.”

Prior to the 2014 vote, there were many polls that showed the initiative winning by a similar margin as this poll. Florida will be a highly contested battleground for not just marijuana reform, but for all things election related. It’s expected that.............http://www.theweedblog.com/statewide-florida-poll-finds-61-support-for-medical-marijuana/
