Forbes did the nation a favor by ranking pot prices in all 50 states and found that Oregon’s weed is nearly less than half the price of East Coast bud.

Mark Pettinger, spokesman for the Oregon Liquor Control Commission, which regulates recreational marijuana in the state, says Oregon’s prices are low by design.

“The whole idea is to make the legal product competitive with the black market,” Pettinger said.

Last year, the Perfect Price Blog surveyed six states in the country with the most dispensaries: Arizona, California, Colorado, Michigan, Oregon and Washington. Oregon’s price per ounce was the cheapest.

Today, according to Price of Weed, an ounce of high quality weed in Portland is $117.

Advantages to keeping weed prices low include boosting sales and tax revenue and discouraging illegal activity, thus keeping law enforcement and social costs at a minimum.

But the real advantage, according to an economist at BDS Analytics quoted in the Willamette, is Oregon’s approach to taxes.

Suffice it to say that Oregon’s marijuana tax program is simpler than Colorado’s and lower than Washington’s.

“It’s mainly the tax difference that makes us cheap,” said industry veteran Beau Whitney.

Whitney cautioned however that newly legalized states will likely roll out their pot sales with low state taxes.

One of the options is being brought up for discussion by Rep. Jon Applebaum, says the Associated Press. He wants to see Minnesota marijuana regulated like alcohol, and have the tax revenue go to public school funding; like Colorado.

“It’s eventually going to happen,” the Democratic lawmaker told CBS Minnesota.

His bill would include the following:

Recreational sale of cannabis in 2019

Allow Minnesotans over age 21 to use, possess and buy up to one ounce

Regulates growing, harvesting and retail

Permission to grow up to 6 marijuana plants at a time, with 3 or fewer being mature

FOX 9 reports that Rep. Applebaum believes his proposal is in-step with what most Americans think about pot.

“The world is changing, and Minnesotans are rightfully developing different attitudes on marijuana,” Rep. Applebaum said. “Other states’ successes, along with the failed prohibition attempts of others, have validated the need for a statewide conversation on legalizing the personal, recreational use of marijuana.”

Access to medical marijuana is now easier for New Zealand patients as a top minister deferred the duty of who can get the plant to the Ministry of Health.

The change in the approval process means the Associate Health Minister Peter Dunne will no longer sign off on each individual request for pharmaceutical grade medicinal cannabis products.

“When applications first began to be received it was my view that the final decision appropriately lay at ministerial level, rather than exposing officials to risk, given the complicated and contentious nature of the issue – that is to say the buck stopped with me”, wrote Mr Dunne in a statement.

The move comes a couple of months after Mr. Dunne removed the requirement for Ministry of Health approval to prescribe Sativex as treatment for multiple sclerosis for New Zealand patients.

As Stuff.co.nz reports, Dunne has hinted more changes could be on the way to further loosen prescribing rules for specialists wanting to prescribe Sativex for conditions other than multiple sclerosis.

The British police arrested two men after 50 weed plants were discovered growing in a hut at Windsor’s Legoland, which bills itself as “The UK’s Favourite Kids Theme Park.”

Windsor is based in the County of Berkshire, located on the Thames River about 20 miles west of London.
