81-year-old Margaret Holcomb’s home and land was raided by the Massachusetts National Guard and State Police, according the Daily Hampshire Gazette.

The crime? Growing a single marijuana plant. That’s right…1 plant.

The series of events that took place on September 21 left Holcomb without charges, but feelings that her constitutional rights had been violated.

“This is a violation of the Fourth Amendment, I am a citizen of the United States of America. You have overstepped and I am not going to step aside,” Holcomb said in an article by The Boston Globe.

According to the NY Times, which cited three anonymous government officials. the DEA has decided that they will not be rescheduling cannabis. This is very disappointing not only to the marijuana law reform movement, but the broader drug law reform movement as a whole. I’m not recommending that everyone should go out and get high, but if you’re already using (and please let it be legal), then you may as well be properly educated. Most people who’ve experienced anxiety as a result of marijuana have consumed too much too quickly. Ease into cannabis use. Go slow and allow time to observe the way your body reacts. Too much marijuana causes elevated anxiety and panic attacks. One bad marijuana experience can permanently taint your feelings about cannabis.

If you’re smoking or vaping, take one hit and wait 10 minutes. Wait for the weed to work. Take more later. Keep this in mind when you start a new strain. Go slow.

Small doses are especially important when consuming edibles. The onset after oral consumption is much slower than smoking/vaping. Ten milligrams is an often recommended starting dose. YouGov recently released a new poll that indicates that more Republicans support marijuana legalization than oppose it.

Peter Moore, a pollster for YouGov, said in a statement:

YouGov’s latest research shows that most Americans still support legalization of marijuana, and that support for legalization has increased slightly, from 52 percent in December 2015 to 55 percent today. Most of this change is a result of changing attitudes among Republicans. In fact, for the first time, Republicans narrowly tend to support legalization, 45 percent to 42 percent.

However, while the trend for Republicans has improved over recent years, surveys also indicate that Democrats and Independents are still more likely to support legalization. Democrats back legalization 63-25, Independents 55-33, and Republicans 45-42, according to the survey of nearly 1,000 US adults.
