Hitting the blunt, then launching astronauts into space sounds like a great Rick and Morty episode.

 

But in the world of American mainstream political optics, SpaceX founder Elon Musk’s appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience has become a bad look.

 

This week, NASA’s chief said the agency will investigate SpaceX in 2019 for adherence to federal drug-free workplace contracts, amid concerns about an unconventional corporate culture that starts at the top. SpaceX is located in Hawthorne, CA— a state where cannabis is legal for adult use.

 

“We need to show the American public that when we put an astronaut on a rocket, they’ll be safe,” NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine told the Washington Post in a Tuesday story.

Musk appeared on the Sept. 7 episode of The Joe Rogan Experience and at one point drank whiskey and appeared to puff on a lit blunt. Musk didn’t seem to inhale from the large cannabis cigarette rolled in tobacco leaf paper, though. The puff did not appear to affect him.

 

Now, space travel is dangerous, and the 16 year-old commercial spaceflight company founded by Musk could fly astronauts as soon as June, reports state. SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 rocket on Nov. 16— its twelfth rocket booster launch this year.

 

In the not-impossible event of a spaceflight malfunction, NASA needs to be able to say it adequately supervised its contractor.

An unidentified Canadian cannabis investor has been banned from entering the United States for life after being stopped by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol on his way to MJ BizCon. The investor had planned to tour a marijuana cultivation facility and attend the cannabis business conference which was held last week in Las Vegas.

 

Len Saunders, an immigration attorney in Blaine, Washington, said that the investor told U.S border agents his plans when they asked why he was headed to Las Vegas on the morning of October 14.

The first thing to know when helping your relative decide between edibles or the smoking route is that the human body processes THC—the psychoactive compound in cannabis—differently for each. Smoke (or vape) cannabis and it goes to your bloodstream and makes its way immediately into your brain. Eat it, and the liver gets first dibs at processing the THC, turning it into 11-hydroxy-THC, which is five times as potent. The high will be delayed, but the effects last much longer.

 

Edibles might seem convenient and innocent enough (yay brownies!), but you need to be very careful with dosing. When you buy an edible at a dispensary, more than likely the dose is going to be 10 milligrams of THC. Which can be too much for a beginner.

 

So follow the most important rule for cannabis, and for edibles in particular: Start low and go slow. You probably want to begin with a dose closer to 2 or 3 milligrams. You might not feel anything from it, but you’re going to prefer that to overdoing it and descending into paranoia. N.J. lawmakers to vote on legalizing weed, adding cannabis ‘microbusinesses’ and academic research

New Jersey legislators will hold hearings Monday to debate a package of bills that would legalize recreational marijuana in the Garden State, expand the existing medical marijuana program, and potentially blaze a new trail for how cannabis is legally grown, sold, and distributed in the United States.

 

Both the state Senate and Assembly budget committees are scheduled to vote on the "New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory and Expungement Aid Modernization Act" and the "New Jersey Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Act."

Seeking to expand the state’s commercial hemp market and spur economic growth, Assembly Members Nancy Pinkin and Verlina Reynolds-Jackson have sponsored legislation to allow industrial hemp farming in New Jersey. The bill was signed into law by Governor Phil Murphy on Wednesday.

 

“More than twenty industrial hemp-producing countries worldwide each generate millions of dollars in revenue selling everything from fabrics to personal care products made from one of the world’s oldest crops,” said Pinkin (D-Middlesex). “Allowing our farmers to grow hemp will be an economic engine for our agribusiness and a way to preserve more farm space in our state.”

 

The new law, formerly bill A-1330, establishes an industrial hemp license for planting, growing, harvesting, possessing and selling industrial hemp in the state. The law also sets up procedures for persons applying to the Secretary of Agriculture for a hemp license.

A spokesperson for Gov. Andrew Cuomo says that creating a framework for legalizing adult marijuana use is among the administration’s 2019 legislative priorities.

One of the US Senate’s leading marijuana prohibitionists, Iowa Republican Charles Grassley, will not be heading the Judiciary Committee in the 116th Congress.

 

Representative Grassley announced on Friday that he is stepping down as leader of the Committee.
