After months of public pressure and media attention, the DEA has finally removed some inaccurate information from its website.

The change comes after Americans for Safe Access filed a legal request with the Department of Justice in December, demanding that the DEA update and remove factually inaccurate information about cannabis from their website and materials.

Americans for Safe Access (ASA) argued that the more than 25 false statements on the DEA’s website about marijuana constituted a violation of the Information Quality Act (IQA), which requires that administrative agencies not provide false information to the public and that they respond to requests for correction of information within 60 days.

Thankfully, the petition was filed before “alternative facts” became an accepted justification for blatant lies, but something tells me we’re still not in the clear.

The Colorado State Senate voted 34-0 in favor of a bill directing the state’s Department of Agriculture to study the feasibility of allowing farmers to use hemp in animal feed.The Washington State Legislature passed a similar bill in 2015.

In Washington State, however, agriculture authorities recently concluded that hemp is not safe to use in poultry feed, saying there is not sufficient research on whether THC, the psychoactive chemical in weed, passes on to the birds, according to the Associated Press.

Advocates push for a 2017 Texas medical marijuana bill during a Constituent Advocacy Day that brought a few hundred cannabis supporters to the state capitol, in Austin.

The effort to galvanize support for cannabis in the southern state was organized by a coalition of groups including chapters of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML), and Marijuana Policy Project (MPP) under the umbrella of Texans for Responsible Marijuana Policy.

Canada recently concluded a study on the benefits of medical cannabis and found that the plant was not only effective in pain management, but that it also helped with addiction to more harmful vices.

The study found that cannabis use can diminish a user’s dependency on tobacco, alcohol and other dangerous drugs like painkillers. The research is one of the first major studies to make the connection between cannabis and substance addiction. The study asserts that cannabis can help you get off drugs, and is not the “gateway drug” that it has been described as for years.

The International Journal of Drug Policy released the findings. Participants of the research project were asked to complete an online survey comprised of “107 questions on demographics, patterns of use, and cannabis substitution effect.” In total 271 individuals participated in the study.

Within the study, a massive 63 percent used cannabis in lieu of prescription drugs. Of those individuals, 30 percent said they used cannabis instead of opioids.

It also found that 16 percent of patients questioned consumed cannabis as an alternative to benzodiazepines for their anxiety and insomnia, and 12 percent preferred cannabis for their depression instead of using antidepressants.

For social situations, 25 percent reported that they used cannabis as a substitute for alcohol, and 12 percent replaced their tobacco products with cannabis.

Colorado has been reaping the financial success of cannabis longer than almost any other state in the country. It is so profitable in fact, that its revenue now exceeds that of some countries.

The Colorado Department of Revenue is reporting that $1.3 billion of revenue was generated in 2016 from both recreational and medical cannabis. Those figures eclipse the GDP of 19 nations in the world. Of that money, $200 million of tax revenue was created for the state.

If U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions decides to impose a lethal crackdown on legal marijuana states, industry leaders believe it would be catastrophic to Colorado’s economic prosperity.

During a recent interview with the Denver Channel, Kristi Kelly, executive director of the Marijuana Industry Group, said any decision by the Trump administration to launch a full-scale war against the legal cannabis industry would “cause a recession,” sending tens of thousands of Colorado workers to the unemployment line.

With the state now generating in upwards of $1 billion a year in legal marijuana sales, she said federal interference would have nothing less than devastating consequences.

“The economics of this are huge in Colorado,” Kelly said. “There is a billion-dollar economic impact in Colorado, which is directly attributable or affiliated with the cannabis industry, so that equates to 20,000 people licensed in trade.”
